Sintang with its large area makes it a district with the potential for natural resource development. Palm oil and rubber are two commodities that are prioritized for development. Sintang also has tourism potential with the existence of Bukit Kelam (Kelam Hill), one of the largest monoliths in the world. Although the economy continues to be improved, Sintang has committed itself to be balanced with natural preservations through Sintang Lestari's (Sustainable Sintang) commitment.

Sustainable Action Plans
Forest and peatland fire prevention
Development of Joint Secretariat in West Kalimantan province and efforts to encourage sustainable palm oil management
Strengthening Sustainable Food Security, with the implementation target as follows:
Strengthening & Accelerating the Implementation of the Sintang District Food & Nutrition Action Plan;
Increased Farmer Capacity related to Sustainable Agriculture Practices;
Identifying and Strengthening the Networks for cooperation & partnership with third parties related to the implementation of the Sintang District Food & Nutrition Action Plan;
Implementation of communication strategies and awareness raising regarding food independence starting from the family context.
Reformation and revitalization of Sintang District Cooperatives, with the implementation target as follows:
Strengthening the efforts to reform and revitalize Cooperatives in Sintang District;

Strengthening HR-based and Society-based Local Economy, with the implementation target as follows:
Encouraging the strengthening of BUMDes institutions and natural resource-based and community-based businesses in accordance with the potential of the region with the priority to ensure at least each sub-district has one BUMDes model that can operate effectively;
Mapping of site conditions, potential priority business fields and market opportunities to encourage PROKADES (Village Leading Products);
Improved human resource capacity at the village level that is needed to effectively manage the BUMDes in accordance with the specified business fields (including transparent and accountable financial management & general management);
Assistance and provision of facilities and expertise needed by rural communities to develop business fields that have been determined through BUMDes; and
Developing and implementing communication strategies and involving parties to support the development and replication of BUMDes that have successfully developed the predetermined business fields.
Social Forestry and Agrarian Reform
Sustainable Farmer Empowerment, with the implementation target as follows:

Conservation and Restoration
District government plans for conservation and restoration activities on forest and peatland, including:
Control of fires in forest and peatland
Watershed Restoration of at least 50%

Issuing a moratorium on land conversion
Encouraging awareness-raising efforts in forest areas
and peatlands and animal protection.
In the Policy sector:
Encouraging Decree on the Establishment of Zone Blocks for conservation tourism and biodiversity rescue in the Sintang District area;
Encouraging Decree on the Establishment of Biodiversity Parks (KEHATI) in the Sintang District area;
Study of the potential, location, urgency and management strategy for saving biodiversity in the Sintang District area;
Study of the potential, location, urgency and management strategy of KEHATI Park in the Sintang District area;
Strengthening the Management and Economic Potential of Bukit Baka & Bukit Raya National Parks
Supporting the strengthening of community groups as partners for the potential tourism destination of Bukit Baka & Bukit Raya National Park (forum porters, forum guides, forum rangers, etc.);
Planning a strategy for increasing income for the communities around Bukit Baka & Bukit Raya National Parks as a strategy to prevent illegal mining in the National Park area;
Constructing hiking and cruising routes in Bukit Baka & Bukit Raya National Park which are supported by the necessary facilities;
Developing and implementing communication strategies to popularize Bukit Baka & Bukit Raya National Park as a tourist icon in Sintang District, West Kalimantan Province, and Indonesia.
Rescue of Strategic / Essential Ecosystem Areas (watershed, peat and water catchment areas), with the implementation targets as follows:
Preparation of identification documents for Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) and other strategic ecosystems, including critical land;
Compilation of regional designation and governance strategies for Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) and other strategic ecosystems;
Encouraging district-level policy products related to regional determination and governance strategies;
Identification & preparation of Restoration Strategy Plans for critical areas in the area of ??identification of Essential Ecosystem Areas (EEA) and other strategic ecosystems;
Preparing a community-based Oversight Working Group for the implementation of the Essential Ecosystem Area (EEA) Management Strategy Plan and other strategic ecosystems; and
Encouraging the issuance of District and Village Level Regulations related to fisheries zones and regional governance strategies targeting at least 5 (five) lakes, namely (i) Jemut, (ii) Semetung, (iii) Padong, (iv) Jars, and (v) Binjai.
Renewable Energy and Electricity.
The District Government plans in 5 years, the information and preparation of electricity to reach 80% (currently only 51%) and at 2020 the capacity is expected to be more than the target: a surplus of 10% as reserves. Therefore, the development plans that have been prepared are:
Preparing / issuing MoUs for cooperation in building 3 units of PLTBM (Biomass Power Plant) with PLN.
Survey and acquiring AMDAL permits which are currently on the process (PT CEN, INTIK A and, CBE Bambu already present on the site)
The project handover of 4 micro hydropower plants (MPP) (<100KW) which are in collaboration with MCAI -Kehati has been installed.
Building Solar Power Plants including (7 Plant operating 5-30 KWP 70 KW Hybrid
Preparing a feasibility study for PLTD (diesel power plant) development
Preparing a Solar Power Plant for self-help programs through grants from the Local Government Budget in collaboration with Villages that contribute to the preparation of 5 ha of village land and village budgets
Development of PLTMH (Micro-hydro Power Plant) by collaborating with the Ministry of Cooperatives - Productive Business Groups.
District Government prepares regulations, infrastructures, road access, especially feasibility studies, and financing schemes and monitors their implementation.
Planning documents, RPJMD (2016-2021) —Improvement, Energy, and Electrification have been prepared.
Preparing policies, regulatory frameworks and Gakum especially regarding energy and electricity
In the Policy sector:
Legal umbrella & licensing procedures for clean and renewable energy;
Strategic Planning for Clean and Renewable Energy for Sintang District (including energy needs and potential for electrification and fuel and their other potential derivative products);
Environmental studies related to clean and renewable energy-based power plants (including waste);
